Beginning with recitals in 2003, Concerts Grand was the creation of producers George Mathews and Terry McNeill, Sonoma County residents and historians of piano performance practice. In Northern California, there were all-classical piano seasons in Sacramento and Fresno, but nothing in the San Francisco Bay Area or on the North Coast.
Concerts Grand’s goal is to produce only solo classical piano recitals, using small halls, no paid advertising and moderate ticket prices. All recitals are Sundays at 3 p.m. Instruments include a Grotrian 275, Hamburg and NYC Steinway Ds, Yamaha CF111 and a Baldwin SD10B. The 2010-2011 season will have eight recitals in three counties: five in SRJC's Newman Auditorium, one at the J-B Piano Emporium in San Rafael, and two in the Choral Room of Mendocino College in Ukiah.
