Beginning with recitals in 2003, Concerts Grand was the creation of producers George Mathews and Terry McNeill, Sonoma County residents and historians of piano performance practice. In Northern California, there were all-classical piano seasons in Sacramento and Fresno, but nothing in the San Francisco Bay Area or on the North Coast.
Concerts Grand produced 85 formal recitals up to 2014, in Santa Rosa, Angwin, Ukiah, Tiburon, Belvedere and San Rafael.
Concerts Grand’s goal is to produce only solo classical piano recitals, using small homes, with no advertising, gratis admission and good food. Some are by invitation. All recitals are Sundays at 3 p.m. Instruments include a Grotrian C, Mason & Hamlin BB, Bösendorfer 225, Steinway D and B, Yamaha CF111 and a Baldwin D. The 2013-2014 season will have six recitals in Marin and Sonoma Counties.
